CV NUSAHEULANG
CV Nusa Heulang is a seed company engaged on plant breeding of vegetable varieties and seed production activities with high quality standard. Our company was founded on April 1st, 2014, started by breeding activities.
CV Nusa Heulang is emphasizing on developing hybrid varieties that later on will be used by other seed companies for distribution to the farmers as end user. We consider to become independent and strong national vegetable seed company.
Our research and production are located in West Java, Indonesia. We do prioritize high quality seed assurance, both starting in the field and in the laboratory based on goverment standard quality. High-quality seeds produced from registered superior varieties that are concerned with genetic, physiological, and physical quality. Tomato breeding activities are the starting point to determine that CV Nusa Heulang continuously develop better vegetable varieties that can competed with multinational companies for Indonesian farmers.
CV Nusa Heulang is seriously and consistently committed to enhance the developing better hybrid varieties with updated breeding technology. Research activity and seed processing are carried out in Wanayasa, Purwakarta Regency, West Java while the seed production is widely fulfilled in West Bandung, Bandung Regency, West Java. We also aimed to educate young breeders to develop new superior varieties required by Indonesian farmers and expand various highly qualified and competitive commodity in the market.

ACTIVITIES
RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT
CV Nusa Heulang focus on Solanaceae and Cucurbitaceae as the main breeding program. Tomato, Cucumber, bittergourd as main crops, while eggplant, pepper and pumpkin as secondary program.
Most of the breeding program we focus on resistant breeding. Begomovirus and bacterial wilt are the highest priority for lowland and highland tomato, besides TmV as basic resistant that should be available on each variety. On Cucumber we focus on begomovirus, and later on we will work also on ZYMV, CGMMV and CMV. For pepper we still have small breeding program, especially we are focussing on bird pepper (C.frustescens).
There are two main types for tomato breeding programs. Determinate for lowland tomato and indeterminate for highland tomato. Determinate tomato mostly small fruit size about 60 to 90 grams, while indeterminate should more than 100 grams, highround or obovoid fruit shape and good firmness and long storability related to long transportation. Bacterial wilt, TmV and begomovirus are the main resistant breeding program for tomato.
There are two main types for cucumber breeding program. Lalab type, that related to small, slime type with different green color intensity. The other type we call Rujak type, that has long and big size with dark green color. Begomovirus, ZYMV, CMV are the main program for resistant breeding, and soon we will start the CGMMV resistant breeding. Plant bitter free also start on the breeding program due to big issue especially on dry season.
For bittergourd we focus only on the type base on color and the skin performance. This commodity increase the market size related to the low risk on cultivation.
Bird pepper (C.frustescens) tend to increase the market size due to culinary trend in Indonesia. Productivity, pungency, storability are the main characters that we focus, while begomovirus, TmV and CMV also considered.
SEED PRODUCTION
Seed production we do either internal or external. Tomato seed production mostly done in our own farm at highland West Bandung Regency inside greenhouse using rice husk burn media with AB mix fertilizer compound. Besides that we have collaboration with the grower at Garut Regency especially for lowland tomato.
The seeds production of cucumber and bittergourd we do collaboration with seed grower and we do open field seed production.
Eggplant seed production also we do collaboration with seed grower. This commodity still small market although big market size.
QUALITY ASSURANCE
Since April 2023 we conducted ISO 9001-2015 due to the Agriculture Ministry regulation. All laboratory activities such as germination test, moisture content test and labelling we can do ourself, beside the genetic purity test we do in the field by evalution the agronomical characters each variities.
MARKETING
Our business focus on Business to Business (B to B), due to the limited manpower and eliminate the risk of failure payment. There are two system of selling the varieties, exclusiveness and non exclusive. Exclusive main one variety for one clien or buyer while non exclusive main free selling varieties. The seed production still done at CV Nusa Heulang due to the security reason, while the Decree Certificate for seed distribution can be applied by buyer/client for exclusiveness while for the non exclusive the application done by CV Nusa Heulang

FACILITIES
RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT
There are three locations of research farm for breeding program.
Wanayasa
Purwakarta Regency as main farm area that located at 650 m above sea level (asl), Garut at 700 m asl and West Bandung regency with 1100 to 1300 m asl. Breeding program in Wanasaya focussing on cucurbits and bacterial wilt screening for tomato and eggplant. The total area around 5000 m2.
Garut Farm
Used for begomovirus field screening and fruit set for tomato, breeding program for bird pepper and hybrids trial for lowland tomato, and cucurbits. The total area around 3000m2 while sometime we rent the land of farmers for conducting hybrids trial.
West Bandung
West Bandung research farm using as highland tomato program and pepper breeding program. The land that used for breeding program we rent to the farmers either for hybrid or lines selection program with the total area base on the need.
PRODUCTION FARM
There are 3 locations of seed production, using green house. Two locations in West Bandung, 7000 m2 at 1400 m.asl and 3000m2 at 1100 m asl. The green house of seed ground in Garut regency around 1 ha that located at 1000 m asl.
SEED STORAGE AND LABORATORY
The controlled seed storage on humidity and temperature we use to store the germplasm/breeding materials, stockseed/parental lines and temporary comercial varieties before distribute to the buyer.
